Wounded hedgehog treated with L-Mesitran honey Tulle | Heridos erizo tratada con el nuevo L-Mesitran tulle

Due to the increasing veterinary use of L-Mesitran products, we hereby present a very challenging case study about a wounded hedgehog, treated with the new L-Mesitran Tulle.

The hedgehog was presented with a large contaminated wound, probably caused by nibbling rats while hibernating. The wound was covered daily alternating with L-Mesitran Soft and Tulle. Within one month the wound was closed.

In this week’s newsletter we want to highlight a case study which was published in the Wounds UK journal.

An infected diabetic pressure ulcer treated successfully using L-Mesitran Tulle.This study shows the successful treatment of the infection, fast debridement and quick epithelization of the wound using this newly developed gauze.

This week we would like to highlight a case study from Taiwan.
 
This case study describes a very fast healing of an infected abrasion. A wound of an 89 year old female was not responsive to antibiotics and already turned necrotic.After only 10 days of treatment with L-Mesitran Soft gel the wound was clinically healed.

An 87 year old female diabetic, suffered from an open wound on her left foot due to a transmetatarsal amputation. Culture swabs showed that the wound was infected with Proteus mirabilis. Wound healing went slow and after 10 days with little progress the physician decided to change therapy to a honey based approach.

Skin tears and haematomas occur frequently within the growing elderly population. Surgical management can lead to complications and bring high costs for debridement and grafting.

In equine wound healing exuberant granulation or ‘proud flesh’ is considered a major issue by the owner and the veterinarians.

According to Alex Brander (RN) L-Mesitran contributes to shorten the inflammatory phase in wound healing, thus reducing the possibility of proud flesh formation.

On October 21st a case study about the veterinary use of L-Mesitran on a tortoise with bite wound injuries was published online in Vet-Magazin.com.

An approximately 5 year old female Hermann's tortoise was found seriously injured in a garden. It looked like a dog had played with the tortoise and had been chewing on her. At first the wound was treated with analgesia, antimicrobial agents and received in infusion with NaCl, glucose and vitamins.

Management of diabetic foot ulceration with honey / Manejo de úlcera de pie diabético con el uso de miel

The latest Wounds UK Journal published a case report on the use of L-Mesitran Soft in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcerations.

A 48-year-old male patient, type 1 diabetes, had sensitive, motor and autonomic diabetic neuropathy. After an amputation on the right foot in April 2010 wound healing was very slow. L-Mesitran Soft application speeded up wound healing not influencing the patient’s glycaemic levels and no adverse events were reported or antibiotics used. Honey-based products can play a vital role in the management of diabetic foot ulcers.

Use of honey products in lower limb lymphoedema and recalcitrant wounds / Uso de productos de miel en linfedema y heridas recalcitrantes de miembros inferiores

The latest Wounds UK Journal published a case study on the use of L-Mesitran in lower limb lymphoedema and recalcitrant wounds.

Investigators from two different Community Health Centers in Portugal successfully used L-Mesitran to heal recalcitrant ulcers in lymphoedematous lower limbs. The patient was a 45 year old female who also suffered from obesity (BMI=53).
