L-Mesitran® wound care products have also been used with success in veterinary care.

 

Kerstin Bergvall, a Swedish specialist in veterinary dermatology (dipECVD), incorporated the use of L-Mesitran Soft in the treatment of bacterial pyoderma in horses. According to Bergvall the honey gel is particular effective when used for inflamed skin on the lower parts of the legs (especially the fetlock area) of many horses. The product has the added benefit in Sweden that there is no withdrawal time for competition. Her treatment recommendations were published in the Swedish journal Travronden in 2010. 

 

Leading scientists of the Veterinary Faculty Utrecht University (NL)  Overgaauw and Kirpensteijn published their L-Mesitran findings in the renowned European Journal of Companion Animal Practice. Their conclusion: “honey has after application in wounds an antibacterial effect against several bacteria and shows reduced oedema and discharge. Moreover it helps in generating granulation tissue and epithelia and has an odour neutralizing effect.” (EJCAP - Vol. 16 - Issue 1 - April 2006)
