Diabetic foot infection treated with honey based L-Mesitran Soft and Hydro
Today we would like to share another case study about a severely infected diabetic foot. This time however, the wound was treated with L-Mesitran Soft gel and L-Mesitran Hydro dressing.
The left foot of a female (77 years) DM Type 2 showed strong signs of infection and necrosis. The wound was most probably caused by a minor injury which hadn’t been noticed due the loss of sensitivity.
Prior to the honey-treatment, the necrotic tissue was manually removed and a culture swab was taken. The patient received intravenous antibiotics to combat the isolated (Staph. lugdunensis, Streptococcus constellatus ssp pharyngis and Streptococcus constellatus ssp) infection, but unfortunately after one week of this conventional treatment it was necessary to amputate the big toe. The area was too much damaged to salvage.
The post-operative wound was treated with the honey based products. After only 4 days of treatment the exudates decreased significantly and the inflammation disappeared. After 1,5 month the wound was fully healed, without affecting the blood glucose levels.
