Veterinary use of L-Mesitran: Tortoise, bite wound injuries treated with honey gel | Uso veterinario de L-Mesitran: Tortuga con heridas por mordeduras tratadas con gel de miel

On October 21st a case study about the veterinary use of L-Mesitran on a tortoise with bite wound injuries was published online in Vet-Magazin.com.

An approximately 5 year old female Hermann's tortoise was found seriously injured in a garden. It looked like a dog had played with the tortoise and had been chewing on her. At first the wound was treated with analgesia, antimicrobial agents and received in infusion with NaCl, glucose and vitamins.

Management of diabetic foot ulceration with honey / Manejo de úlcera de pie diabético con el uso de miel

The latest Wounds UK Journal published a case report on the use of L-Mesitran Soft in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcerations.

A 48-year-old male patient, type 1 diabetes, had sensitive, motor and autonomic diabetic neuropathy. After an amputation on the right foot in April 2010 wound healing was very slow. L-Mesitran Soft application speeded up wound healing not influencing the patient’s glycaemic levels and no adverse events were reported or antibiotics used. Honey-based products can play a vital role in the management of diabetic foot ulcers.

Use of honey products in lower limb lymphoedema and recalcitrant wounds / Uso de productos de miel en linfedema y heridas recalcitrantes de miembros inferiores

The latest Wounds UK Journal published a case study on the use of L-Mesitran in lower limb lymphoedema and recalcitrant wounds.

Investigators from two different Community Health Centers in Portugal successfully used L-Mesitran to heal recalcitrant ulcers in lymphoedematous lower limbs. The patient was a 45 year old female who also suffered from obesity (BMI=53).

Diabetic foot infection treated with honey based L-Mesitran Soft and Hydro

Today we would like to share another case study about a severely infected diabetic foot. This time however, the wound was treated with L-Mesitran Soft gel and L-Mesitran Hydro dressing.

The left foot of a female (77 years) DM Type 2 showed strong signs of infection and necrosis. The wound was most probably caused by a minor injury which hadn’t been noticed due the loss of sensitivity.

During the EPUAP 14th annual European Pressure Ulcer Meeting in Oporto (Portugal) dr Rui Carvalho and his team presented an interesting case.
 
A 60 year old female with scleroderma and severe pulmonary hypertension with three wounds in her right leg. Previous treatments with e.g. alginates, collagen or silicone failed; the treatment was started with L-Mesitran Hydro.

Single blinded, randomized, prospective study: L-Mesitran ointment is effective in the treatment of Pyoderma in dogs

In a Swedish single blinded, randomized, prospective study compared the topical treatment of Pyoderma in dogs with L-Mesitran and conventional treatments. The L-Mesitran honey treatment has proven to be safe, without side effects and easier to perform. The results suggest that L-Mesitran is an effective treatment option compared with shampooing.

Recurrent ulcers in a patient with post-thrombotic syndrome treated with honey / Úlceras recurrentes en un paciente con síndrome post-trombótico tratadas con miel

Doctor Pereira Albino (vascular surgeon) wrote a case report titled: Recurrent ulcers in a patient with post-thrombotic syndrome." This was published in the latest Wounds UK Journal (Vol.7, No.2).

Ulcus cruris venosum treated with honey-based L-Mesitran ointment and Soft

A 37 year old Rumanian man developed thrombosis in ’92 and ’93. As this was not treated correctly, his first wounds developed in ’95. In ‘02 his CVI was at stage II. In ‘06 his CVI was at stage III and he had developed a chronic ulcus cruris venosum. In 2009 the patient was presented again and then it became apparent, that after three years the wounds had had little progress.
